    Cahal Pech

One of the oldest Maya sites in Belize, Cahal Pech (“Place of Ticks”) was once a robust city with a population of 10,000-15,000 people. During its heyday between 1200 B.C – 900 A.D. Cahal Pech was a one of the most important centers in the Belize River Valley Region. Located in the heart of San Ignacio, this is one of the easiest ruins to reach and also one of the most comfortable, with large shady trees providing a nice respite from the Belizean sun.
