Cave Tubing

Grab an inner tube at the nicely appointed entrance park to Nohoch Che’en Cave, cross the clear blue Caves Branch River, and take a lengthy, but mostly flat, hike through the jungle led by your experienced guide, who will point out flora and fauna along the way.

After about 45 minutes, you will set yourself afloat in the river with your inner tube and begin your ride through the cave tunnels and back to the park entrance. Don’t be nervous, you will be provided with a headlamp, and the cave is actually a series of wide and spacious caverns which periodically open up to the sunshine and jungle. Enjoy floating past side windows that filter the jungle light through the mist as you swirl around stalagmites jutting from the river and stalactites looming from above. Float past underground waterfalls then into the crystal cathedral, a spiritual center to the ancient Maya. Your guide will stop you along the way, and at times get you out of the water, to show you actual Mayan artifacts which are still intact and able for you to see up close. The entire trip will take about two and a half hours, and is a must for hot weather months.

Drive Time from Table Rock: 1 hour on paved highway

Adventure Level: Easy to Moderate. If you don’t mind the long but relatively easy walk and don’t have a problem carrying an inner tube (the hardest parts of this adventure), then floating in the crystalline waters and taking in the scenery is easy indeed. Some underground hiking is also necessary, and you must be able to swim.

What to Wear & Bring: Bathing suit under shorts and shirt, and water shoes. Remember your towel and a change of clothes. You may also want to bring along extra water, sunscreen, and insect repellent for the hike.

*Restrictions: Basic swimming skills are required for this tour, and children must be at least 40 inches tall.

    Duration: Half-day tour.

Combinations: Make it a full day tour by combining the adventure of cave tubing with the Belize ZooXunantunich, or Zip Lining.
